A Custom Frame: From Start to Finish

Step 1:

Contact Julie!

Step one is pretty straightforward. You’re practically there already! Simply send us an email at info@pedalinobicycles.com. While you’re seeing to that, let me take a moment to sincerely thank for your interest and support of my work. A custom made bicycle is a pretty big deal, and I’m flattered and honored to be considered as a candidate to turn your cycling goals into reality.

Step 2:

The Quote Process

Once you get in touch, we’ll have an initial conversation about your wants, needs, and must-haves. I’ll then take this information and submit a formal quote to you.

Step 3:

Start Build Deposit

When you are satisfied with the quote and ready to move forward, you’ll get added to the build wait list. When it’s your turn on the list, I’ll send you a final quote, and we can start the build process! Please note that a deposit of 40% (of your final quote) is required for me to begin your project.

The start date for your project is dependent on our current work load. I will do my best to give you a rough estimate for when your project will begin, but because of the relative complexity of the work we do, it is not possible to provide exact start dates. That said, I will not take payment of your deposit until I am ready to start working with you!

Step 4:

Production of your frame

When it’s time to begin, I’ll collect your 40% deposit and get to work! If your’re local to the Kansas City area, it starts with an in-depth fitting/sizing session at the studio. We’re proud to partner with Mike Irwin, a talented and experienced bicycle fitter for all fitting sessions. The goal during your fit is to evaluate you on your current bike (or bikes) and if things need to be changed or tweaked, make those changes on the bike you bring so that you can “try it before you buy it”. This is more than a taking a few quick measurements - expect to spend 2-3 hours with us during your fit.

If you are not local, I’ll send you a super fun fitting worksheet to fill out and, if possible, we’ll have a remote fitting session.

After we nail down your frame sizing and other parameters of the frame, I’ll create a CAD rendering of your geometry, paint design, lug design and anything else that is pertinent to your project. When you’re happy with everything, physical production of your frame will officially begin! For more info about frame production, check out the Fabrication and About pages. Please expect 8-12 weeks of production time until delivery. Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Pedalino Bicycles facebook and instagram pages for updates as your frame comes to life!

Step 5:

Once your frame is finished, and (if applicable) assembled, we’ll set up delivery. Payment in full is due at or before delivery. Local clients are welcome to march straight to my studio to pick up their frame in person! Otherwise, your bike will be carefully packed and shipped to you.

Step 6:

Now you can finally enjoy your new custom whip! Go forth and spread your awesomeness. And don’t forget to send me an update once in a while!
